With the release of the new AMD Ryzen 7 9700X, it’s price is more inviting than ever. The Ryzen 7700X offers slightly higher performance compared to the Ryzen 5 7600X, and two extra cores, meaning it’s an excellent CPU for gaming, multitasking and light productivity.
The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16GB offers the latest and greatest technologies Nvidia has to offer. With excellent performance in games, amazing ray tracing performance and DLSS support.
This build is recommended for:Â 1440p high-refresh performance in competitive games, with a GPU capable of delivering excellent performance for 1440p gaming, using high-quality settings (with or without ray tracing + DLSS) in AAA and single-player games.
CPU
Starting with the CPU, our main recommendation is the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X. Usually found at a very similar price to the Ryzen 7 7700 variant, but has a higher power target, meaning it delivers slightly more performance out of the box. Otherwise, both CPUs are very similar, with the same amount of cache and cores, and both are unlocked, and can be overclocked.
Comparing it to the new Ryzen 7 9700X, it is a much more interesting CPU, as it offers similar performance in games, but with a much lower price tag.
Our Recommendation: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X (AMD Ryzen 7 7700 also an excellent option if considerably cheaper).

CPU Cooler
For the Ryzen 7 7700X, it’s recommended to use a Dual Tower Air Cooler, or a 360mm Water Cooler. Something like the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 or the Cooler Master Hyper 620S are excellent and affordable solutions for the AMD CPU, both offer good cooling performance at a very low cost.
If you are looking into an AIO, the Cooler Master MasterLiquid 360L Core and the Thermalright Frozen Notte 360 are both excellent, very affordable water coolers.
Our Recommendation:Â Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 (Air Cooler).

Motherboard
There is a wide range of AM5 motherboards to choose from. B650 Chipset Motherboards are an excellent, more affordable option, but with the release of X870 Chipset Motherboards, options with PCIe 5.0 support (B650E, X670E and X870) are easier to find in the $200 range.
Something like the Ryzen 7 7700X or Ryzen 7 9800X3D, does not require a high-end motherboard to run, an ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 is overkill enough. More expensive motherboards main benefit would be large amount of fast USB ports, power delivery headroom for overclocking, M.2 heatsinks and other useful features. X870 motherboards also add Wi-Fi 7 and USB4 connectivity, with the ASRock X870 Pro RS WiFi being one of the best examples for a gaming build.
- If you want a X870 motherboard, USB4, WiFi 7 and a few other quality of life features, check our $300’ish X870/X870E Motherboard Buying Guide and Comparison for Gaming Builds.
Our Recommendation: Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX (PCIe 4.0), ASRock X870 Pro RS WiFi (PCIe 5.0, USB4 and WiFi 7) or similar $160-200 AM5 Motherboard.

Memory
Considering gaming performance, a DDR5 6000MT/s CL30 kit still is one of the best options available for AM5 Ryzen CPUs, it’s easily found at an affordable price, and compared to more expensive, higher speed or lower latency kits, it delivers minimal difference in average framerate or 1% lows performance.
It is possible to find a few AMD EXPO high speed, low latency kits at a very similar price. 6400MT/s CL32, 6400MT/s CL30 and 6000MT/s CL28 kits are also available, and some are quite close in price with 6000MT/s CL30 kits.
- For more DDR5 options you can check out: Best DDR5 Kits for AMD Ryzen 7000 & Ryzen 9000 AM5 CPUs.
Our Recommendation: TEAMGROUP T-Create Expert (<$90), G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO, Corsair Vengeance RGB or similar 2x16GB 6000 CL30 Kit.

Storage
A high-end NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD with DRAM Cache is highly recommended at this price range. They are fast, with excellent response times for everyday tasks. Have high-endurance, and higher sustained performance for productivity (heavy write and read usage), than most HMB SSDs.
An SSD with 2TB capacity would be highly recommended, it is a good amount of space for a large gaming library. For those who need even more capacity, we recommend an additional PCIe 4.0 HMB 2TB SSD (or a 4TB one). They are more affordable, and for extra storage, they are quite good options.
- Most entry-level AM5 motherboards have at least 2x PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots. More expensive models have either 3x or 4x slots.
Our Recommendation: Acer Predator GM7000 2TB, WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB or similar PCIe 4.0 SSD with DRAM Cache.

Case
For the case, we recommend something with mesh panels, good airflow and great cooling capacity. ATX in size, with included fans if possible.
Cases like the Antec Flux or the Antec C5 ARGB, Montech AIR 903 MAX and NZXT H5 Flow RGB are excellent examples of that. They offer a vast amount of space for large components, four or more included fans, compatibility with 360mm radiators and great value.
A few other excellent options:
- Lian Li Lancool 216, case with 2x160mm fans included, amazing airflow from the start, great build quality and a ton of space for large components.
- Corsair 3500X ARGB and Corsair iCUE LINK 3500X RGB. Beatiful cases with great build quality, glass panels to showcase your build, 3x 120mm fans included and plenty of space for large, high-end components.
Our Recommendation:Â Lian Li Lancool 216, NZXT H5 Flow RGB, Montech AIR 903 MAX or similar $70-110 ATX Case with good airflow.

PSU
For this build, a high-end 850W PSU is already more than enough, the RTX 4080 SUPER and the Ryzen 7 CPU are very efficient in games. It is possible to find a good amount of great, high-end, high quality 850W PSUs in the $120-150 range.
Options like the NZXT C850 Gold ATX 3.1, the Corsair RM850x ATX 3.1, the Seasonic Focus GX-850 ATX 3 and many others are available in that price range, and highly recommended for this build. The 1000W version of those PSUs are also excellent recommendations for an upgrade.
- For a few other 850W options, or a 1000W PSU upgrade, check our list of best 850W & 1000W PSUs for RTX 4000 GPUs.
Our Recommendation: NZXT C850 Gold ATX 3.1, Corsair RM850x ATX 3.1 or similar high-end PSU.

GPU
The Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16GB is a decent improvement over the previous RTX 4070 Ti 12GB. It offers more VRAM, 16GB versus 12GB in the previous version, with slightly improved performance on all resolutions. It offers DLSS support and better ray tracing performance than AMD RX 7000 GPUs, in a similar price range (Radeon RX 7900 XT), but compared to the AMD GPU, it has lower raster performance in most games.
Despite all that, it offers excellent performance overall, great ray tracing performance, enough VRAM to tackle high-quality settings at high resolutions without issues, with support for DLSS, meaning even with up-scaling enabled, it’s possible to play at high resolutions, with excellent performance and high visual quality in most games.
Our Recommendation:Â Gigabyte GAMING OC, ASUS Dual OC Edition, Gigabyte WINDFORCE OC or similar MSRP priced model, or less expensive.

Optional: Case Fans
For most use cases, it is recommended to have at least two intake fans and two exhaust fans. Additional fans can be used for improved component cooling and to help exhaust the hot air from inside the case.
High quality and affordable fans like the ARCTIC P12 PWM PST or ARCTIC P12 MAX can be found in the $35 range. Other excellent options like ID-COOLING, Thermalright, Montech and Antec can also be found around that same price range.
Our Recommendation: Thermalright or ARCTIC Fans
