It also delivers very high random performance for both writes and reads, and excellent terabyte written endurance (TBW), with up to 2400TBW for the 4TB model.

Western Digital WD_BLACK

The WD_BLACK SN850X is the first option from Western Digital worth taking a look at. It usually offers better value for performance compared to other options, with up to 7,300 MB/s read and 6,600 MB/s write speeds (sequential), high terabyte written endurance (up to 2400TBW for the 4TB model), and high random performance for both writes and reads. The WD_BLACK SN850X can usually be found at lower prices than the SAMSUNG 990 PRO, and it is an excellent high-end SSD for extra storage.

The WD_BLACK SN850P, Western Digital officially licensed for PS5 option, follows the same spec sheet as the WD_BLACK SN850X, same sequential and random maximum speeds, same TBW endurance, but now at a higher price range, closer to the SAMSUNG 990 PRO. The SN850P is only worth buying if it’s the only option available, or if found for a good price.

Crucial

The Crucial T500 is another excellent option worth considering. It offers very competitive pricing, sometimes closer to the WD_BLACK SN850X when on sale, while offering higher random and sequential write performance. It delivers up to 7,400 MB/s read and 7,000 MB/s write speeds (for the 2TB model), closer to what the SAMSUNG 990 PRO delivers, almost maxing out PCIe 4.0 x4 speeds.

Overall it is an excellent SSD for the PlayStation®5 and it’s usually found at an excellent price.

Kingston

Another excellent option worth checking out for the PS5, is the Kingston FURY Renegade. Offering high TBW endurance (up to 4000TBW for the 4TB version), high sequential performance (7,300 MB/s read and 7,000 MB/s write) and a decent price for the performance it offers. It offers lower random performance than most of the other options, but still is an excellent high-end SSD, especially if found for the correct price.
