For those looking to build a new PC without spending too much, Intel is in a really interesting position. It offers support to much cheaper DDR4 RAM, as well as DDR5, depending on the motherboard you choose. It also offers support for two generations of CPUs, 12th and 13th Gen, with affordable options like the Intel i3-12100F and the i5-12400F, as well as a range of more expensive, high-end CPUs.

If you are building on a budget and have plans to upgrade later, it is a great platform to do so. CPUs like the i5-12600K, i7-12700K and i5-13600K are a great pair with high-end, modern GPUs, like the GeForce RTX 4000 and Radeon RX 7000 series. Upgrading the CPU means you are going to be asking more of components in the power delivery system of your motherboard, if they are not capable, that will cause them to overheat and/or power throttle the CPU, keeping you from fully enjoying your upgrade.

In order to avoid that, you need to build your system with a good motherboard, with a capable power delivery (VRM) and good heat dissipation on those components. Low-end, cheaper motherboards might be enough for an Intel i3 or a i5-12400, but for higher-end CPUs it might cause problems. The idea here is not to pair a high-end motherboard with an entry level CPU, but to get a good, affordable motherboard, that also allows you to have upgrade options.

So, with that in mind, let’s go through a few options that would be able to handle more powerful CPUs like the i5-12600K, i7-12700K and i5-13600K.
